Scott Byland: Account Executive – An experienced senior-level professional, Scott has a deep knowledge and broad understanding of industry dynamics. He is detail-oriented with a reputation for diligence and a commitment to producing outstanding results. Scott enjoys uncovering efficient and valuable solutions that benefit both the company and the clients he serves.
Scott and his family have lived in Middleburg Heights for over 20 years and are very active in the community. Scott, his wife Carrie and their three children, love to be outdoors bike riding, hiking with their dog Zoey or watching baseball.
Michelle Cario: Commercial Lines - Since joining Hertvik in 1997, Michelle has held multiple positions in personal and commercial lines. She currently serves as a Commercial Insurance Manager for our network operation where most of her time is spent working with agents to design commercial insurance solutions for area businesses.
Michelle resides in Parma with her husband Sam and their two sons. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and is an active member of her church, volunteering whenever possible.
Alyson Dorn: Personal Lines Account Manager - After spending 7 years working in customer service, Alyson obtained her insurance license and came to Hertvik in August 2021 as a Personal Lines Manager. She enjoys connecting with clients and takes pride in sharing our mission of building relationships to meet our clients’ unique needs.
Outside of work, Alyson enjoys staying active and going to the gym or going for long walks. She and her boyfriend, Chris, reside in North Royalton where they enjoy watching movies, trying out new restaurants, and attending local events and festivals.
Scott Ewers: Past President & CEO - As former President and CEO of Hertvik Insurance Group, I spend considerable time focusing on our long-term strategies. We’re fortunate to have wonderful clients and a team of committed professionals who are the primary drivers of our success. A graduate of Bowling Green State University, my insurance career began more than 30 years ago, and I can still say that working directly with clients is the most rewarding aspect of my career.
My wife and I reside in Medina with our three children. We enjoy traveling and value the time we get to spend with our family. We also have two pets, one of which likes me much more than the other.
Matt Finkler: Account Executive – With over a decade of experience in the insurance agency, Matt is extremely passionate about finding the most efficient coverage for his clients. You can lean on Matt’s expertise to make confident insurance decisions.
Matt, his wife Brittany and their son Nash live in Strongsville. As an active member of the community, Matt is a Trustee at the Strongsville Chamber of Commerce and a Paul Harris Fellow with the Strongsville Rotary. He also enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.

Jack Hertvik: Vice President - I'm the third generation of the Hertvik family to work in the agency. I joined the Hertvik Insurance Group full-time in 2001. I learned early on from my father and grandfather that taking care of the client is paramount. My career has included positions in customer service and accounting before being promoted to Vice President of Personal Lines in 2007.
In 2010, I was promoted by Scott Ewers to serve as President of SIA of Northern Ohio, a network of more than 60 independent agencies that he founded in 2001.
A graduate of Kent State University, my wife and I reside in Medina with our two sons.
Melinda Jack: Client Services Administrator - Melinda has been part of the team since 2010, when she joined Hertvik as a Receptionist. In 2016, she became licensed and was promoted to serve as a Client Services Administrator.
Melinda particularly enjoys customer service and the opportunity to continue learning while working as part of the team. She resides in Brook Park and has a son who is graduating from college in 2019. She enjoys exercising, reading and spending time with friends and family.
Samantha Jakuszewski: Account Manager - Samantha joined Hertvik Insurance Group in April of 2016 as a Receptionist. After enjoying that position and getting to know our clients she was given the opportunity to move to the role of Commercial Lines Processor in March of 2018 and in May of 2019 was promoted to a Commercial Lines Account Manager. While she has grown and accomplished many challenges in her time here, she looks forward to her future loves assisting our clients with their ever-changing insurance needs.
Samantha and her husband, Aaron, reside in Cuyahoga County with their cat, Mitzi. They spend their time trying new restaurants and going out with family and friends. If they aren’t out on the town, you will likely find them at home solving puzzles or watching The Office.
Sam Kandrin: Account Executive - Sam has worked in insurance for over 45 years and his experience is a great asset to his customers. Sam is an avid golfer and shooter. He has resided in Strongsville for over 30 years.
Mike McAvinue: Vice President Commercial Lines - My career began in the life insurance area in 1982. I joined my father’s agency as a Commercial Lines CSR in 1984 and have focused on business insurance ever since. In 1995 we were acquired by the Hertvik Insurance Group where I worked as an Account Executive. As Vice President of Commercial Lines, I now manage the customer service team that supports our Business Insurance clients. I especially enjoy the fellowship and camaraderie at Hertvik and find much satisfaction in helping our clients.
I live in Bay Village with my wife Kathy and my children, Jonathan and Ann Marie. I enjoy spending time with family and cruising in my classic car.
Patrick McAvinue: Founder – After starting his own insurance company out of his home in the early 1960’s, Patrick used his insurance acumen to grow the business for over 30 years. He then merged his business with John Hertvik in 1995 but continued to be active in the industry as an Account Executive. With over 50 years of experience, Patrick is now enjoying his retirement with his family.
Christina McGoldrick: Comercial Lines Account Manager- Christina joined Hertvik Insurance Group in 2021. She has over 12 years experience in the insurance industry, mainly focused on commercial clients.
When not working, she spends most of her time coaching her daughter's cheerleading team.
She and her husband, Tim, have three kids and live in Medina, OH.
Tiffany Mekeel: Controller - Tiffany joined Hertvik Insurance Group in 2022. She is a detailed oriented, responsible, and committed accounting professional. She brings with her a high-level drive to get the project done, on time and accurately. Tiffany’s high energy and passion for fun come with her in her day-to-day life. She takes pride in doing a little bit of everything.
In addition to her career, Tiffany serves as the affiliate chair for the Cleveland Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, where she builds awareness and demands better for patients and survivors.
Tiffany is a graduate of John Carroll University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Tiffany resides in Medina with her husband and two sons.
Julie Mikalacki: Marketing Director - Julie joined Hertvik Insurance Group in 2021. She brings extensive expertise to Hertvik’s Marketing Department having worked in the technology, healthcare, and insurance industries.
Her responsibilities include coordinating all internal and external communications including strategic planning and all Hertvik’s marketing, advertising, and public relation endeavors. She also oversees all website, social media, CRM, advertising, media relations, publications, and collateral management.

Julie is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in strategic communications, specializing in public relations and marketing. She holds a master’s degree in marketing and communications. She is an active and very proud OSU Buckeye alumni.
She is a Medina local who loves to travel and spend time camping and kayaking with her fiancé.
Nate Moog: Account Manager – Nate joined Hertvik in 2020 and brings over a decade of experience as a licensed insurance agent. Nate got his start working for his father’s captive insurance agency. He has mostly focused on personal insurance and has found his place as a personal lines account manager at Hertvik. Nate strives to provide an exceptional customer experience to our clients with attention to detail, thoroughness, and a friendly attitude.
Nate enjoys sports, music of many varieties, and nature in his spare time. Nate married his wife Cate in 2010. The family dog has been joined by three children, two daughters, and a son. The family enjoys playing board games together and spending time exploring nature at Metroparks all over Northeast Ohio. Nate’s family especially enjoys spending time together on annual trips to North Carolina and Kelley’s Island.
Andrew Ryan: Vice President and Senior Account Manager - Andrew was born and raised in the Mid-Atlantic area. In 2012 he graduated from the University of Delaware with a double major in Finance and Economics. Shortly after graduation, Andrew relocated to Northeast Ohio where he was hired by an insurance agency focusing on small commercial business. He joined the Hertvik team in April of 2018 as a Commercial Client Manager concentrating on small to medium-sized businesses. In 2021, Andrew was promoted to Vice President and established an ownership position with the agency.
Andrew is constantly looking to expand his insurance expertise. In 2019, he obtained his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. Andrew excels at finding the right coverage for each client’s unique needs. His problem-solving skills have been a valuable asset to his clients.
Andrew and his wife, Bekah, currently reside in Medina County with their son, Carson. In his free time, Andrew loves to travel, watch his Philadelphia sports teams, and spend time with his family. Andrew volunteers at several nonprofits to give back to the community. He also is a founding member of a foundation focuses on addressing mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
Jill Sedio: Administrative Assistant - Jill joined the Hertvik Insurance Group in March of 2018. As the Administrative Assistant, she enjoys being the initial point of contact to our clients as well as assisting our own staff with a variety of clerical activities.
Jill and her husband Bryan are long-time residents of Medina County and enjoy keeping busy with their four grown children.
Megan Stano: Account Manager - Megan joined the personal lines team at Hertvik in early 2020. She previously worked for a small captive insurance agency and brings several years of sales and client service experience to the team. Megan earned her bachelor’s in political science from Wittenberg University where she met her Wadsworth-native husband, Aric.
Her free time is spent with her two small children, Eloise & John, their dog Fritz, and her husband – either outside for a hike or working on their 1888 home in Wadsworth.
Adria Walters, CIC, CISR: Account Manager - Adria joined Hertvik at the beginning of 2021. She graduated from Ohio University in 2015 and shortly after, started working in the insurance industry.
She has over four years of experience working in both personal and commercial lines and received the Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation in 2019 and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 2022. She enjoys interacting and helping clients with their insurance needs and is excited to continue to learn and grow in the field.
She resides in Berea with her husband Kyle and their golden retriever pup, Craig. In their free time, they enjoy exercising, going out to eat, and watching Cleveland sports.
Kyle Weyrick: Account Executive - Kyle brings over six years of insurance experience and worked as a claims adjustor before joining Hertvik Insurance Group in 2020. He is passionate about helping find the best solution to fit the clients’ situation and provide the best service possible.
Kyle grew up in Chagrin Falls, OH and is a graduate of Bowling Green State University. He and his fiancé, Sarah, love to spend time with their son and Australian Shepherd, Hudson. In his free time, Kyle enjoys playing golf and the bass guitar.
I was born and raised in Sandusky and am proud to call this town my home. After high school, I attended Bowling Green State University where i earned a Bachelor of Science degree before going on to earn a master’s degree in the field of Educational Administration.
My insurance career began in 2002 when I joined my father’s agency, Badamy & Associates. Shortly thereafter, I earned the Certified Insurance Counselor designation (CIC) and Certified Risk Manager designation (CRM).
As a professional, my goal has always been to provide outstanding customer service. I truly care about my clients and the experience they have with our firm. I am a Sandusky Rotarian and firmly believe in our motto, “Service above Self.”
I reside in Sandusky with my daughter Olivia, my partner Cathy and her daughter Rylee. We also can’t forget Chewy, our Golden Retriever and Huskey, Stanley.
Michelle started with the organization over 20 years ago. She has an Associate’s degree in Business Administration from Ohio Business College.
In 2008 Michelle earned her Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR) designation. She loves taking the time to explain to customers what they are buying and making sure they are covered in the event of a loss.
She grew up in Bellevue, OH. In 1993 she met her husband, who served 4 years with the United States Army. They got married in 1998. They live with their two cats that they rescued from the Seneca County Humane Society. In her spare time, Michelle works at the historic Ohio State Reformatory.
Rhonda joined the team in April 2022. She is an Administrative Assistant at our Sandusky office and is often the person you will hear first when you call the office. Rhonda helps customers with billing questions and assists with a wide variety of other tasks.
Before starting with Badamy, she worked in retail for seven years. She and her fiancé, Nathan live in Port Clinton, OH. Rhonda is an avid animal lover, having three cats, two dogs, and a rabbit. When not tending to her fur babies, she enjoys game nights with friends, binge-watching comfort shows, or camping with her family and dogs.
I entered the insurance business more than 40 years ago. I enjoy helping clients achieve financial security with life insurance and annuities. Along with that, being able to offer various solutions pertaining to their business, and personal insurance through the Hertvik Insurance Group. I value all of my client relationships and I’m grateful that several clients have become personal friends.
A life long resident of the Canton/Massillon area, I served in the United States Air Force following college. Along with my wife Sandy, I enjoy golfing and being with our five children, twenty-six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. It is especially enjoyable to spend the winter season in beautiful Naples, Florida.
With more than 25 years in the business, I enjoy helping individuals and small business owners understand their options pertaining to health insurance.
During my free time, I love spending time with my children and working out at the gym. I am also a member of the Perry Local School Board of Education. I have been a part of the Hertvik Group since 2015
Born in Massillon, I attended Washington High School and have lived in Stark County my entire life.
My insurance career began focusing on Life, Health and Annuities while also working in the auto body and construction fields. Since 2014, I've been focused full time on the insurance business working with my brothers and nephew. I appreciate the ability to offer personal and business clients choices by working with a strong portfolio of carriers. I use my prior work experience to assist clients in designing coverage plans to meet their needs.
When not working, I can often be found boating in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. I serve as President of the Flying Tigers Snowmobile Club while also devoting my time to several organziations in my home town of Massillon. A member of the Massillon Area Chamber of Commerce, I volunteer regularly for community events for the Downtown Massillon Association and work on construction projects for Impact Massillon, a faith-based organization that spruces up the city's residential neighborhoods.
I married my wife Sherie in 1980 and we have two grown sons and a daughter-in-law, along with several spoiled grand-dogs.
