Service Line Coverage

What is Service Line Coverage?

Do I need service line coverage on top of my homeowner’s insurance?

Learn why service line coverage is an important addition to your homeowner’s policy.

We often don’t think about the many lines buried under the ground that provide various utilities into our house. If a service line breaks, you will be left without a critical service, and a bill for thousands of dollars. By adding service line coverage to your homeowner’s policy you can hopefully avoid that cost!

Why do I need it?

Help cover the costs of repairing damaged service lines and pipes that you are legally responsible for. Dependent on your plan, there will be coverage for the following service lines on your property: Gas, Electrical Wiring, Water, Sewer, Cable, Internet, and Power.

What protection does it provide?

Depending on the coverage provided by your policy, it could provide protection against a leak, break, tear, rupture, collapse, or arcing of a service line caused by:

– Collapse (not including a collapse caused by a sinkhole or subsidence)

– Electrical and mechanical or pressure systems breakdown

– Freeze

– Rust or other corrosion, decay, deterioration, hidden or latent defect

– Wear and tear

Subsequently, if you have a policy with your local utility company to cover one of your service lines, this coverage might be a better option because it covers more than just one of your utility lines.

Is it expensive?

This coverage is not expensive. Also – it is based on the coverage and limits you request, your coverage will be no more than $60 a year! Coverage limits up to $25,000 are often available.
